History

The Black Wolf story started in 2001 when Nermin Sabanovic started training a young 21 year old, Rich.

Nermin’s skill and experience at turning fighters into champions was proven again as he mentored and coached Richie.  With some hard training, Richie improved, and progressed at an amatuer level.  Richie entered many competitions and came runner up in the South Australian State Titles.  

Richie’s decision to apply for the Army under the direct entry scheme in his early 20’s saw him leave the boxing arena, gain entry to the Army as a Commando, and conduct 7 deployments.  After discharching from his unit in 2018 it was time to focus on a new purpose and passion, boxing. 

Richie decided to give Nermin a call out of the blue and after nearly 15 years of no contact asked Nermin if he wanted to co-own and set up a boxing gym with him.

Nermin had been training and coaching in various boxing gyms in Adelaide, South Australia and had been in Sydney for 10 months when he received Richie’s call. 

The timing was perfect! Nermin was also deciding on what his next life move would be and accepted the challenge.

Black Wolf Boxing Academy was born.
